On-line Classes Available

EMS Providers are required to have several classes in addition to the initial training. Some "count" as optional continuing education hours. EMS Providers must remain current in Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse (every 5 years) and Bloodborne Pathogens education (every year). There are also Federal requirements through Homeland Security: Intro to NIMS, Incident Command, START and JumpSTART. Iowa requires EMS to complete an Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course, and BLS at the Healthcare Provider level must be maintained. With so many requirements, utilizing the on-line feature available to many can help save time and money.

  • Bloodborne Pathogens - required of all ambulance personnel, yearly. You can take this class face-to-face, or go online to the following link. It's free. Register, take the course and print your certificate at:
  • NIMS (National Incident Management System) - required once of all ambulance personnel. This is the link to the Emergency Training Institute independent study page. There are several links on this page for classes you need. NIMS is ICS 700.
  • Incident Command System (ICS 100 or 200) - required once of all ambulance personnel. This is the link to the Emergency Training Institute independent study page. There are several links on this page for classes you need. Look for ICS 100 or 200.
  • HazMat Awareness - All responders need to have this class at least once - it is suggested that you repeat it occasionally.
